FPCI: 100 GWp Solar Groundbreaking Marks Strong Political Commitment, with Regulatory Backing as the Next Step

Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) welcomes the Government’s strong political commitment to the 100 GWp solar program, marked by President Prabowo’s groundbreaking ceremony on 25 August 2026. This marks an important step in establishing a clear national direction for Indonesia’s energy future. 

President Prabowo highlighted the scale of the program, which will add 100 GWp of solar capacity to Indonesia’s electricity system, supported by battery energy storage systems (BESS). The program will cover de-dieselisation, rural electrification, productive villages, grid strengthening, and energy provision for industrial areas, giving the ambition a broad role across Indonesia’s energy system. 

The President also directly appointed the core leadership overseeing implementation, comprising Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs; Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources; Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Investment and CEO of Danantara; Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of PLN; and Simon Aloysius Mantiri, President Director of Pertamina, signalling direct cross-government coordination of the program. 

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia highlighted 14 projects totalling 5.3 GWp as part of the initial implementation across Indonesia. He also outlined a government intervention mechanism for projects where IPPs cannot offer competitive prices, including potential assignment to Danantara with financing aligned with the President’s direction. 

The political commitment is clear. The next step is to give it the regulatory certainty needed to endure.

A clear regulatory foundation will anchor this political commitment and provide continuity as the program moves from announcement to implementation, including greater certainty on institutional roles, project delivery, procurement, financing, and implementation milestones. Transparency throughout implementation will be equally important to maintain accountability and confidence among public and private stakeholders. The opportunity now is to ensure that the political momentum behind 100 GWp becomes a durable national program that strengthens domestic industry, drives national economic growth, expands energy access and resilience, and supports the transition to clean energy.
